The Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies at the National University of Mongolia, in collaboration with Gandan Tegchenling Monastery, the Center of Mongolian Buddhists, and the International Association for Mongol Studies, will organize an international conference from August 26-28, 2024. The event will be hosted at the Battsagaan Temple within Gandan Tegchenling Monastery and at the lecture halls of the NUM Library.
As Buddhism spread across the Mongolian landscape, it deeply influenced the nation’s history, culture, governance, and philosophical thinking, giving rise to what is now known as “Mongolian Buddhism,” characterized by its unique monasteries, temples, lamas, rituals, and practices.
This conference will serve as a platform to enhance cooperation between domestic and international scholars, facilitate the exchange of the latest research findings, and discuss the current state and future challenges of the study of Mongolian Buddhism. More than 60 scholars from countries including Mongolia, Russia, the USA, China, India, Poland, South Korea, Hungary, Switzerland, Japan, and Thailand will participate.
